A message from Little Falls Township. To all concerned and all people using the public roads within the Zebulon Shores Neighborhood, there will be Chip-Sealing operations on Thursday, August 27th, 2026, on the roadways of Zebulon Shores Drive, Bay View Road , Arden Hills Boulevard, 118th Street and Bredfield Lane. Residents are asked to turn off their sprinkler systems for Thursday and please do not park any vehicles or trailers on the roadway. Your cooperation during this road maintenance is greatly appreciated and the chip-sealing will be a current method to get more life out of the roadway into the near future. A stretch of the Lake Wobegon Trail will be shut down on Friday, August 28th, while crews seal coat the pavement. The Stearns County Parks Department says the day-long closure runs between Freeport and Albany. Seal coating is routine maintenance on paved trails. It locks out water and slows cracking, stretching the life of the surface before it has to be rebuilt. Cyclists and walkers heading that direction on Friday will need to detour onto local roads or pick a different stretch of trail. The Lake Wobegon Trail is one of central Minnesota’s best-known recreation corridors. The paved trail runs 65 miles and is 10 feet wide end to end, open to walkers, bikers, rollerbladers and snowmobilers. It stretches from Waite Park west to Osakis, with an extension running northeast from Albany to Holdingford and the Stearns and Morrison county line. Stearns County Parks maintains the trail, which takes its name from the fictional town in Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Tony Housey from Camp Ripley spoke on KLTF Wednesday and said that the Environmental Center at the military base is closed at this time. Renovations are being done that will expand the center to add more items in the long run. This will take some time to complete and will announce when the center will be reopening for the public and tours to come and be part of once again. He mentioned that right now by state order all social media for the base has been halted citing some safety regulations that started August 1st with new laws in the state. Cass County officials are warning of a scam involving family members of jail inmates. A press release from the Sheriff’s Office says scammers are asking for parents and family members of new inmates to the jail for money. The scammers can see who has been recently added to the jail roster and are calling those families sometimes from a spoofed phone number that appears to be from the local sheriff’s office. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office stresses that law enforcement will never ask for bail to be posted with PayPal, phone cards, Amazon gift cards, iTunes cards, or other gift cards, noting that these are common methods scammers will use in an attempt to acquire money from victims. Legitimate law enforcement agencies will never demand immediate payment over the phone for fines, missed court dates, or to clear warrants. In one recently reported incident, $1,800 was transferred to a fraudster under the impression that the victim was providing bail money on a legitimate family member in custody. If you receive any calls like this, you should HANG UP immediately and never give out information. Cass County stated they will ask for payment of any kind over the phone if the caller is asking for information and payment, this is a scam.
The City of St. Cloud has released more details on its annual Day of Remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The evening’s 45-minute program starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11th at the St. Cloud Police Department, 101 11th Avenue North. Mayor Jake Anderson is inviting the public to the ceremony, which honors the victims, survivors and first responders of the attacks. The gathering brings together local officials, police officers, firefighters, faith leaders and community members. Speakers will include representatives from local churches, the St. Cloud Police Department and the St. Cloud Fire Department. The program also features the national anthem, a wreath ceremony, a bell ringing, an honor guard piper, a rifle salute and taps. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the coordinated attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and in the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Meta has agreed to pay Minnesota at least $214 million and up to $307 million as part of a $17.1 billion settlement, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Wednesday. According to Ellison, it's the largest Big Tech settlement in history and one of the largest state consumer-protection settlements in history. “It’s my job to protect Minnesota’s children from exploitation, including by massive corporations, and this settlement we’ve won represents a major victory for protecting Minnesota’s and America’s children,” Ellison said in a press release. Also part of the settlement, the company will add child-safety measures to its Facebook and Instagram platforms. The lawsuit accused Meta of contributing to the youth mental health crisis by deliberately designing features that addict children to its platforms and hiding them from the public. It also argued that Meta violated federal laws by routinely collecting data on children under 13 without their parents’ consent. The trial kicked off last week in Oakland, California, with U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers overseeing the proceedings. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, began his testimony late Tuesday and defended Meta’s record and progress on child safety and privacy. The cases in other states had been expected to go to trial later. In addition, nine attorneys general filed lawsuits in their respective states. Now the call is to for other platforms, including TikTok and YouTube, to implement similar safety precautions. Under the proposed settlement, Meta agreed to adopt a series of safety features, including a “hard cap” on daily time limits and pauses for children using Instagram and Facebook.
4th Annual Harding Days is Friday and Saturday in Harding. The Minnesota State Fair begins today at Falcon Heights east of St. Paul at 7am the gates open. The fair runs through Labor Day. Last night Jena Hanson, a 20-year-old college student from Owatonna, representing Steele County, was crowned the 73rd Princess Kay of the Milky Way in an evening ceremony at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Hanson will serve as the official goodwill ambassador for the nearly 1,500 Minnesota dairy farm families. She is the daughter of Steve and Suzie Hanson and attends the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Ten dairy princesses from throughout Minnesota competed for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title. Isabella Schiffler of Albany, representing Stearns County and Jaiden Smith of Melrose, representing Stearns County, were selected as runners-up. Hanson, Schiffler and Claudia Frenchick of St. Martin, representing Meeker County, were named scholarship winners. Smith was named Miss Congeniality. Throughout her year-long reign as Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Hanson will make public appearances to help connect consumers to Minnesota's dairy farm families. She will work to bring dairy to life through conversations, classroom visits and various speaking engagements about the nutritional benefits of dairy and dairy farmers' continual commitment to environmental sustainability. Hanson's first official duty as Princess Kay will be to sit in a rotating cooler in the Dairy Building (located at the corner of Judson Avenue and Underwood Street) to have her likeness sculpted in a 90-pound block of butter the first two days of the Minnesota State Fair. Minnesota artist and butter sculptor Gerry Kulzer will be carving Princess Kay and the finalists.

The NFL announced Wednesday they are eliminating all of the Pro Bowl Games this coming season which would be in Los Angeles in January, they will still have pro bowl selections and a celebration of those players and their families that weekend but not the games anymore.
