A Winter Storm Warning has been issued from 3pm today to 9am Wednesday for central Minnesota including Morrison, Mille Lacs and Kanabec Counties. The forecast calls for rain showers to begin and then changing sometime between 3-7pm to all snow. Total snow accumulations could total 5-7 inches by early tomorrow morning. Another factor will be gusty winds of 25-45mph causing blowing and drifting snow and poor visibilities tonight into early tomorrow. The winds will hang around on Wednesday making for difficult travel at times during the day. Gusty winds could also bring down trees and branches. If travel tonight and Wednesday is necessary use extreme caution and expect delays. The heaviest of the snow will be in northern and northeastern Minnesota where 12-16 inches of snow could fall Duluth to Grand Marais and 6-10 is possible from Park Rapids to Aitkin. Lesser amounts south of St. Cloud where more rain will fall between today and Wednesday where Twins Cities south could see 1-2 inches or less by Wednesday.

NATIONAL TRAVEL NEWS: Thanksgiving travelers should prepare for another huge holiday travel season. A record-breaking 81.8 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more for their celebrations. AAA has estimated approximately 900,000 Minnesotans will be on the move during the Thanksgiving holiday period from November 25th to December 1st. The vast majority, around 90%, will be hitting the roads rather than flying. For those planning to drive, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons are expected to be the busiest. AAA recommends leaving the house before 11am on Thursday, or leaving a couple days early if schedules allow, particularly for those who can work remotely. The return trip on Sunday afternoon is expected to be especially congested. Drivers will find relatively favorable conditions at the pump, with Minnesota’s average gas price sitting at $2.94 per gallon. St. Cloud area drivers are seeing even better prices at $2.89 per gallon, slightly higher than last year but still competitive compared to national averages. Air travelers will have plenty of company as experts are projecting a 1.8% increase in the number of people flying. For those taking to the skies, AAA recommends booking early morning departures, flying on less busy days if possible, and frequently checking flight information on airline websites. They also say to get to the airport two to three hours before boarding time to allow time to get through security. For those bringing food to their destinations, check the TSA website for what is and isn’t allowed on the plane. Weather will be a factor Tuesday and Wednesday but easier conditions Thursday, Friday and Sunday, some snow possible on Saturday.

Sports: Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has entered the NFL's concussion protocol after experiencing "symptoms" during the team's 23-6 loss to Green Bay on Sunday. "He was evaluated last night and after completing those tests our training staff and doctors and medical team have decided that the right place for him is to put him in the protocol for now, and he'll go through that process this week," Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said during his Monday afternoon press briefing. O'Connell said there isn't a specific incident that they've pinpointed as a possible cause. O'Connell added that it's too early to determine if McCarthy will be able to play on Sunday when the Vikings travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks, preferring to "take it a day at a time." Last night San Francisco won 20-9 over Carolina on Monday Night Football as the 49ers go to 8-4.
