The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that since the beginning of the school year, we have received five separate school bus stop arm violation reports—four in the Little Falls area and one in Royalton. This kind of reckless behavior is completely unacceptable and puts our children in real danger as they board and exit school buses each day. We want to remind all motorists: -When the yellow lights are flashing – slow down and prepare to stop. -When the red lights are flashing, and the stop arm is out – STOP. Stay back at least 20 feet. There is zero excuse for ignoring these signals. Being distracted by a phone or in a hurry is not worth a child’s life. We are taking this issue very seriously. Patrols along school bus routes will be increased. All reported incidents will continue to be investigated thoroughly, and bus camera footage will continue to be reviewed when available. Citations and charges will continue to be pursued when violations are confirmed. Let’s work together to make sure no family has to suffer due to someone’s carelessness. Slow down, pay attention, and stop for the bus.

St. Cloud Police have released some more information on a medical emergency at Westwood Elementary School. First responders were sent to the school on Tuesday, September 16th, for a report of a student who wasn't breathing. Police say CPR was performed on a seven-year-old boy from St. Cloud before he was brought to St. Cloud Hospital. The boy was then transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died. St. Cloud Police do not suspect any foul play and are working with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office until a final determination can be made. The St. Cloud Area School District also issued a statement indicating they conducted a full review of their response and operations and have counseling and support teams on-site for any students or staff who need assistance.

No one was hurt after gunshots were fired in South St. Cloud on Sunday afternoon. The St. Cloud Police Department says at about 2:10 p.m., officers were sent to 6th Avenue and 13th Street south for a complaint of gunshots being fired. Once on scene, officers determined that 5 gunshots from a handgun had been fired from the area towards the east. While investigating the incident, officers noticed that one of the gunshots hit a second-floor window of the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on the campus of St. Cloud State University. Based on their investigation, the gunshots are not believed to be a random incident, the hockey center is not believed to have been the target, and no one was hurt. The investigation is still ongoing.

A St. Cloud man has been sentenced for a hit-and-run crash and felony drug possession. Forty-one-year-old Todd Chauvin has been sentenced to six years in prison. He gets credit for having served a year and four months in the county jail. Chauvin previously pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular operation causing bodily harm while under the influence of a controlled substance and one count of 2nd-degree drug possession. The crash happened at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 4th Street South in February 2024. According to the criminal complaint filed in Stearns County District Court, Chauvin ran a stop sign, collided with another car, and fled the scene. The crash injured two people and sent them to the hospital. Officers found and arrested Chauvin, who allegedly admitted to being involved in the crash and leaving the scene to chase after his dog. A blood test determined Chauvin had THC and fentanyl in his system at the time of the crash. Then, on a day in June, an undercover informant notified authorities that Chauvin was heading to the Twin Cities for a drug buy. Police spotted Chauvin on University Drive later that day and made a traffic stop.
